The Data Editor gives you a spreadsheet-style view of the data behind a Grunt object.

Open the Data Editor

Legacy support guidance lists three ways to open it:
  1. Click the pencil icon on the right edge of the PowerPoint window
  2. Use the Data Editor shortcut configured for your version
  3. Right-click a Grunt object and choose Edit data
The editor includes hidden rows and columns that still affect the object.

Basic interaction

Inside the editor:
  • Type directly in a cell for single-line values
  • Press Enter to commit the edit
  • Use the formula bar for multi-paragraph text
The object updates as you commit changes.

Work with selections

The editor supports common spreadsheet-style selection patterns:
  • Arrow keys to move
  • Tab and Shift + Tab to move across cells
  • Ctrl + A to select all data
  • Ctrl + Space to select a column
  • Shift + Space to select a row

Use fill actions

Legacy support guidance also documents quick fill actions:
  • Ctrl + D fills down
  • Ctrl + R fills right
These help when the same label, format token, or formula-like text needs to be repeated.

Manage overrides in linked objects

If an object is linked to Excel and you edit its values directly in PowerPoint, you create overrides.
  • Overridden cells are marked visually
  • The workbook is not changed
  • You can clear overrides to reveal the original linked values again
For the full linked-data workflow, continue to Excel connections.
