Use Export when you need to save a file. Use Send when you want Grunt to open an email draft with the file attached.

Export options

To export a presentation:
  1. Optionally select the slides you want to include.
  2. Click Export in the Grunt ribbon.
  3. Choose the file name and save location.
  4. Pick the output format.
  5. Choose the scope to export.
Grunt supports these output formats:
  • .pptx with live Grunt objects
  • .pptx with Grunt objects converted to native PowerPoint shapes
  • .pdf

When to use each format

GoalRecommended option
Keep Grunt editing available.pptx with live Grunt objects
Let recipients edit without Grunt.pptx with converted objects
Share a final fixed deliverable.pdf

Export scope

You can export:
  • The current slide
  • Selected slides
  • The full presentation
  • A custom set of pages, sections, or ranges

Send by email

To send from PowerPoint:
  1. Optionally select the slides you want to include.
  2. Click Send in the Grunt ribbon.
  3. Choose the attachment name.
  4. Choose the same output format options as Export.
  5. Choose the slide scope.
  6. Click Send to open a new Outlook email with the generated file attached.
The PowerPoint output keeps Grunt compatibility for recipients who only need to view the content. Use Convert Grunts if the recipient needs native PowerPoint shapes instead.
If Outlook handoff is blocked in your environment, export first and attach the file manually.
The Send feature is temporarily unavailable due to changes Microsoft made to how Outlook handles attachments. A fix requiring SharePoint integration is in progress. In the meantime, use Export to save the file and attach it to your email manually.
If Send was previously working but stopped, see Outlook send issues for a workaround related to Outlook (new) vs. Outlook (classic).
